Connect Cardiff uses Ethernet to carry IP packets over optical
fibre. This offers tremendous advantages over traditional wide area
services in terms of cost, network, simplicity, bandwidth
scalability and provisioning time, without sacrificing reliability,
quality of service or other essential network characteristics.
Connect Cardiff connects customers through a direct fibre link
between their premises and the Connect Cardiff community fibre
network. Connect Cardiff delivers it's service through an RJ-45
Ethernet connection with easily scalable bandwidths ranging from 1
mbps to 1 Gbps.
The use of non-blocking gigabit devices throughout the network
ensure regional latency of a few milliseconds or less, suitable for
the most demanding delay-sensitive traffic. And the use of
redundant fibre rings ensures network reliability and
availability.
The architecture connects to the rest of the UK and potentially
across the world by routing IP traffic at multiple peering points,
through multiple interexchange carriers who adhere to strict
Service Level Agreements (SLA's) such as the BT MPLS network.
